We’ll pick you up early from your hotel and drive privately to the Cachora trailhead. We’ll begin with a three-hour hike on the captivating Inca trail, offering a chance to acclimate and enjoy stunning views of the PADREYOC and QORIWAYRACHINA snow mountains. Post-lunch, we’ll continue our hike, descending 1000 meters towards the impressive Apurimac-river canyon, a major Amazon tributary. Our campsite for the night is at Chiquisca.
We begin early, descending to the Apurimac river before tackling a steep four-hour climb to Marampata at 2,900mt. It’s a demanding day, but the breathtaking views of the deep Apurimac canyon and possible condor sightings make it worthwhile. Along the way, we’ll see orchids, bromeliads, and begonias.
Post-lunch, we climb to the mysterious Inca ruins of Choquequirao, situated at 3,000 meters. Our campsite is set up just below these ancient remains.
We begin our day early, heading to the Inca ruins of Choquequirao. We spend the morning immersed in the beauty and history of these mystical remains, nestled among breathtaking mountain landscapes and the cloud forest. Post-lunch, we make our way back through the cloud forest, descending to Santa Rosa to set up our camp for the night.
Following breakfast, we head down to the stunning canyon of the Apurimac-river. Our ascent takes us back to Chiquisca, where we break for lunch. The journey continues upwards to Cocamasana, where we establish our camp for the night.
We depart early today, using the cool morning air to hike up to Capuliyoc lookout point. Then, we descend to the trailhead at Cachora. Awaiting us there is a vehicle, ready to drive us back to Cusco.
The Choquequirao Trek is considered moderately challenging, due to its steep ascents and descents and the high altitude. However, with proper acclimatization and preparation, it’s manageable for most hikers.
The trek reaches altitudes of over 3,000 meters above sea level, with some passes even higher. Proper acclimatization is essential.
